Klaviyo Reviews are here!News

Hi there, Is the Klaviyo reviews product available via API at all? It seems like the only place I can collect reviews right now is in the shopify store and in the link sent via email or text. What if I want to support reviews in my mobile app? Is there any way to submit reviews collected by a 3rd party to Klaviyo?

Does anyone know how to distinguish preview emails after they are sent?

I was thinking about this again today. The places something like this happens right now are tags like {% unsubscribe %}, {% web_preview %} or {% coupon_code %} where the replaced value is different in a preview than in a real email. Which is necessary because you don’t want someone unsubscribing a customer accidentally when previewing an email. We basically would like to use the same functionality for some links that we embed in emails. Is there a way to expose that logic? If not I might try to hack something together using coupon_codes (maybe using the fact that preview codes have “PREVIEW” in them)

@KatherineB That is helpful. Unfortunately I don’t think I can access subject text inside the email so I can’t disable the links. Is there anything in the email body (some dynamic field or something) that we can use.Something like {% if is_preview %} or {% if email.recipient = person.email %} ??

Flow all of a sudden skipping emails due to syntax error

Hey @Taylor Tarpley Yeah, update here: All of our custom email templates (we use a lot) are breaking because of this tag "{{ person|lookup:'$address1'|urlencode|default:'' }}"This just started 2 days ago. Any email that has the above tag hasn’t been able to send. I am considering going through and updating them all to remove the tag but it would take days and I really would rather not.

How can I understand if my Gmail database is viewing their emails on Gmail or iOS mail app?

We’ve run into this a bit as well. It is notoriously hard to detect what client an email is opened one. Parcel.io has the best analytics that I am aware as far as actually telling you what client the email was opened on (especially if the email was opened multiple times on different devices).I know Zaymo also tracks this kind of stuff because they embed interactive widgets into emails that work in Gmail and Apple but not other clients.

@Taylor Tarpley I am having this same issue with a bunch of my emails. They used to work fine but now I get these errors. The first is in the flow preview and the second is from the edit template when trying to send myself a preview. Not sure which variables are not working but I really don’t want to go through and test each one individually when the email used to work just fine.Seems like Klaviyo pushed this new feature recently, is it possible to opt out please? Lots of my flows are not sending.

Subscribe to a list within an email

@Cat J We’ve ran into this problem as well. There are actually ways to embed forms in email and Klaviyo supports some of them. For gmail users you can use the AMP framework, and for apple mail there are solutions as well.Unfortunately it is really hard to implement either of these solutions without knowing how to edit the html directly, the Klaviyo editor doesn’t support themThere are some new companies that do interactivity in email natively. I think the leader in the space right now is Zaymo. They integrate with Klaviyo directly and let you embed interactive components like forms or shopping into your emails.

Scratch off and reveal prizes

We’ve looked into this a bit as well. Things like “scratch to reveal” or “tap 100 times to reveal” are fun for subscribers and when combined with discounts can drive sales quite a bit. There are some companies that take care of the AMP part of the email for you since that is by far the hardest part. Building the amp email is basically like coding the email from scratch in html except amp is even more complicated than plain html. There are also some cool things you can do in apple mail that provide similar functionality and have seen some cool results.  I think Zaymo is the leader in this space, they have a bunch of out of the box functionality that works smoothly with Klaviyo.

Should I create my templates in Figma or in Klaviyo?

Working directly with the Klaviyo builder seems to be the easiest way for us. We use Figma to create some hero images but then build the rest of the email in the Klaviyo editor. There are also some newer editors out there that work directly with Klaviyo and can do some newer stuff that Klaviyo doesn’t support. Zaymo is building an email editor that supports a bunch of out of the box interactive widgets (like abandoned carts, reviews, forms, subscriptions) that make it super easy for subscribers to take action right in the email.

This is a tough problem.I’m assuming you are on shopify based on the event json you shared? There are some cool things you can do with the shopify permalink feature. Discounts can be automatically applied and you can choose to send someone right to the checkout or to the cart page.There are also some cool things you can do with interactive emails both in gmail and apple mail that make this possible. There are some new companies like Zaymo out there that take this functionality and make it super easy to use for shopify-klaviyo stores in the abandoned cart or browse abandonment cases. People prefer to not have to wait for redirect links so doing as much as you can in the email has shown some significant conversion boosts.

Embedding a 1 question survey into a flow email

We’ve dealt with this problem a bit as well. There are ways to embed interactive components directly into emails, see the amp for email project or apple mail interactivity. Both of these allow for forms that are entirely embedded in the email, with no external redirect which increases response rates a lot.The main problem with these projects is that they are really hard to implement and don’t integrate natively with Klaviyo. You would have to capture the form submissions yourself and use the Klaviyo profiles api endpoints to update the profiles of your subscribers.Zaymo is solving some of these problems. I know they are launching a forms product.

I will second this. It took me a while playing around with Postman and the Klaviyo OpenAPI docs to figure out what all was accessible via the events endpoint.

Unsubscribe button in email

You can use {% unsubscribe %} or {% unsubscribe_url %} in your html code. You can also create custom unsubscribe pages. https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005079627 Using Zaymo’s interactive Emails, we can do unsubscribes in the email itself without redirecting anywhere. That is even one step more convenient than not having to enter your email again.

You can also use Shopify’s permalink feature https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/details/cart-permalink We use them at Zaymo especially with our Interactive AMP and HTML emails because if a customer edits their order in the email, we want that to be reflected on the shopify payment page

When & how to loop over event data

You can also do this kind of thing dynamically using AMP and interactive HTML like Zaymo does. That way the event data stays up to date with your store as well (out of stock, prices, images, etc)

Accidentally Deleted Flow Emails

I have been confused in the past as to when edits made to a flow go live. Does it happen immediately? Does it affect people already in the flow? How long does it take to see changes reflected?

You could also add a manual “subscribe” flow that is sent to everyone who’s emails come into your account. And they have to subscribe before your other flows will target them. We help a lot of our clients get super high conversion rates using methods like this

Dynamic date property download

It’s good to know that {% today “%s” as today %}today works as a sort of uuid. We have been looking for ways to do this as well so that urls in the emails are unique to that email. A combination of event.id and this id make it so that emails are unique even within the same flow.How would I go about saving that property to the profile when an email is generated/sent? @David To

Cannot manipulate AMP templates using the API

Hey @retention, Yes you can update the HTML template, the problem is updating the AMP template. When you use interactive AMP emails inside of Klaviyo, the HTML and AMP templates are separate. They are sent at the same time and if the client supports AMP then it is displayed, if not the HTML is displayed. So the API supports updating the HTML version of the template but when working with AMP templates there is no way to update them via the API and we have to manually copy/paste them into each account which is a pain.As to the flow message aspect, there is a way to get a message from a flow which is great. The problem is updating the flow message. There is no endpoint in the public documentation for updating a flow message so again we have to do all of that manually. Adding those two endpoints would be huge. Happy to chat with you product of eng teams in more detail if this is something you are able to do.
