Unable to filter out invalid email addresses

Hi @Ammzish!Thanks for providing that thorough overview.One thing I immediately noticed is that, in your flow filters, an “OR” connector is being used instead of an “AND” connector. Typically, when working with multiple “doesn’t contain” or negative criteria, using an “AND” connector will be required.Here’s a guide from the help center on this topic: AND vs. OR referenceAdjusting the flow filters to the above should result in them working as desired. What causes repeated opened email triggers?

Hi @Entity -A couple of common reasons for an email being opened repeatedly:The mailbox provider is scanning the email and prefetching the images in the background, resulting in an open event to fire (e.g. Apple’s Mail Privacy Protection feature) There is a firewall or spam filter service being used which repeatedly scans emails in the inbox for potentially malicious content.One way to verify if the open is a machine open is to expand the event details and see if the value for the “Machine Open” event property is “true”. What causes repeated opened email triggers?

@Bobby Thanks for the reply Bobby Just checking through these emails and all state Machine Open: False. Is there any other reason why this may occur? @Entity the only other reason that I could think of that I’ve seen before in this case is if the user opens the email and then, for example, leaves it open in the background in a tab in their browser window for an extended period of time. Each time the browser refreshes or loads, it can result in a “non-machine” open.That’s the only other case I could think of where the Machine Open property would be labeled as “false”. Would be curious to see if anyone else in the community can think of another potential reason, though!

Can you create a segment/filter based items added to cart with specific product tags?

Happy to try and help out here.If referring to the Shopify Checkout Started event, there typically exists a tags event property that will appear in the filter dropdown when setting up a trigger split. However, these are typically order-level tags (example below) and not product-level, which it sounds like you’re looking for: In the use case that you described, the typical approach I see is to reference a category/collection property (e.g. “dog food”) when segmenting (example below): Similar would apply to the custom Added to Cart event, if you’re tracking that as well. As long as there is an event property for category/collection, you’ll be able to filter off of that.Would the above solve for your use case? Or, is the data you’re looking for only available as a product tag in the catalog, and not available at the collection-level?Cheers,Bobby

I also wanted to share an in-house approach that could solve for this use case and might be of interest.Note, this method is technical and requires developing a custom referral-related event(s) and managing the coupon generation internally. The benefit here is that you could create your own in-house referral program, which could be more cost-effective in the long run.StepsWhenever a customer places a first-time order, a custom event (e.g. “Eligible for Referral”) would trigger. This event would trigger a separate “Refer a Friend” flow, and the event payload (i.e. the properties included with the event) would include a top-level property for the referral coupon (e.g. “referral_code”). Note, this unique coupon value would need to be generated internally upon the user placing the order and then dynamically included in this event. The email/sms message template in the flow would contain an event personaliz

Hi @Laurent,That’s a great question and interesting use case.At the moment, I’m not aware of a method within Klaviyo that would allow you to track and assign an increasing number count to a user’s profile as they enter a flow.The best approach I can think of would be to assign that number to the user at the point of eligibility/sign-up and trigger a custom event to that user’s profile. This event would also be used to trigger the flow.An example would be a landing page where users are prompted to register and guarantee a place in a queue (e.g. for a product drop). When they click “submit”, an API call could be made to the database/table where these registrants are stored to return what number row they are in the table. This would be their number in the queue.That number would need to be dynamically included as a property (e.g. “queue_number”) within the custom event (e.g. “Registered for Product Drop”). You could then insert this number dynamically into the email template using event p

Considering you’re at the pre-launch stage, I’d expect the method Stefan outlined to be more feasible to start.If/when the approach becomes too manual, that’s when a third-party app built for referrals might be a good fit. A few that I’ve seen mentioned in the space that could be worth checking out are Friendbuy, Social Snowball and ReferralCandy.To respond to your follow-up questions: Q. can this referral code created by the event be attached to the referrer for matchback later?I’m sure this is technically possible. However, in the approach I mentioned, it would require custom development to create automated matchback functionality. It’s possible the referral apps I mentioned offer this natively. If not mentioned on their sites, it’s a good question to ask their teams during a product demo. Hi @Jac,You were correct in your segment criteria to use “Has placed order zero times over all time” to exclude existing customers.You were also correct in using it as an AND statement. I would expect any profile who has recorded a Shopify Placed Order event to be excluded from the segment.A few steps you can take to troubleshoot:If you click into a few of those profiles that are existing customers and received the discount, can you confirm that they have a Shopify Placed Order event recorded? If their historical order data is associated with a different Placed Order metric instead (e.g. a custom Placed Order event, a Magento Placed Order event etc.), they would be eligible to enter the segment If you check the lists & segments they belong to on their profile, do they still belong to the segment that you had screenshotted above? Another troubleshooting step is to clone the segment without changing any criteria and then see if these profiles are still included in the new segment Th

@Jac thank you for sharing the additional detail.Considering this is unexpected behavior, I believe the best next step you could take to resolve this is to reach out to Klaviyo support.Since they have access to your account, they could review the segment, the campaign audiences, and profiles in question. They could also confirm if this was due to a bug (not common but possible). I would also suggest creating the below segment in your account to isolate the profiles in question and could be helpful for troubleshooting:Example Segment CriteriaReceived email at least once over all time where campaign is “NAME_OF_CAMPAIGN” AND Placed order at least once before date of campaign sendWould be curious to hear if you’re able to resolve this!Cheers,Bobby

Thanks for following up with the additional discoveries.Yeah, I’ve seen it’s not uncommon for people to use a secondary email address to receive a discount offer (e.g. from a popup when they first visit the site). Then, insert a more actively monitored primary email address at checkout once they’ve decided they like to order.Great idea with the Shopify segment!Cheers,Bobby

The Number of Form Submissions and the Number of People Are Different

@Alis for those contacts to be added to your Klaviyo account, they’ll need to confirm their subscription via the double opt-in confirmation email that was sent to them.Without confirming, they won’t be added to the account and you won’t have access to those users’ email addresses, which is the expected behavior for the double opt-in setting.If you’d like to pursue further, I’d suggest reaching out to Klaviyo support so they could reply directly and share what their policy is in these situations!Cheers,Bobby

Hi @topgummy -Thanks for writing! I’ll list out steps below to one approach that could help you achieve this:First, it might be best to set up a segment-triggered profile property tag flow. The segment criteria could simply be “Placed Order zero times over all time”. This flow would include a profile property action to create a boolean profile property (e.g. “Never Placed Order”) with a value of TRUE. You’ll likely want to add past profiles to the flow to retroactively tag all profiles who have not yet placed an order Then, you’d also want to create a separate profile property tag flow for when people do place an order. This would be triggered by a different segment that essentially contains “Placed Order at least once over all time”. That would be set to update the “Never Placed Order” property with a value of FALSE. Finally, you would follow the instructions here to create a show/hide condition with profile data based for the text block with the coupon code. You’ll want to only show

Creating a profile property tag in Klaviyo is essentially “tagging”.Below is an example of how this would look as a flow: Where I highlighted in pink is where you could select the desired products to classify someone as a “discount buyer” who would go down the first path. You would just need to insert multiple “or” statements there for each product you’d like included, which can be cumbersome depending on how many products are in your catalog. Hi @caitlinlmh,Appreciate the detail you included in your post. I’ll try to help out here.Out of curiosity, is your “Added to Cart” event set to only include one item in each event? Or, if people add multiple items to cart during a session, do subsequent “Added to Cart” events include previously added items during their session?The reason I ask is because the default behavior for this event is the former. So, if the majority of the items you sell are under the $59.94 threshold, it would be expected that only individual items above that threshold would go down the “No” path.Another area worth confirming is to ensure that the “PriceAmount” attribute being referenced in the flow is the desired price attribute to reference in the Added to Cart event (often times there are multiple price-related attributes).Will stay tuned for your reply!Cheers,Bobby

I think I see what you’re saying with the one item in each event - are you saying that one item would need to be greater than 59.94 in order to go into the High Value?Correct. Assuming that each of your Added to Cart events only include one item (which is the default structure for the Shopify snippet), and considering that you currently don’t have any items priced above $59.94, that could explain the behavior in the flow.If you inspect recent Added to Cart events, do you see only one item listed in each? Or, do you see multiple items listed in an “Items” array (i.e. an expandable property)?If the former, then that’s likely the issue. I was under the impression that it was triggered by the one item, but that the TOTAL cart value at the time of abandonment is what it was using. Is that not the case? Because that’s the behavior I’m wanting! The trigger split is referencing the PriceAmount event property, which I’m assuming is the price for the individual item t
