How to organize a messy database?

Hi @GV123 thanks for your question! Providing the information @kaila.lawrence requested can help us narrow down the best strategy for list organization. In the meantime, I thought I could give you some pros and cons of different ways of doing things: One master list from which you create segments and/or tag profiles based on the referrers.Pros: It is very easy to see list growth over time with only one source You can segment out the list based on customer behavior, recent engagement, demographic info, or more You could have one welcome flow with conditional splits by lead source or you could choose to have several welcome flows using property tags to split them outCons: Flow filters become extremely important if you are targeting users with different messaging based on the opt in source instead of joining a specific list (property filters need to be identical including capitalization and spacing) Identifying performance by lead source could be a bit more challenging since they all join

Etsy and Klaviyo

Hi @rrcifone thanks for posting in the Klaviyo Community - great question and love that you are going to start emailing your Etsy customers! You can create embeddable forms in Klaviyo that you can then add to any landing page. You can follow these subscribers up each with unique flows based on the form they used to sign up. While there is no direct integration with Etsy in order to deliver coupon codes to be used on that platform, there is a great Klaviyo Community article about how you can import Etsy customers into Klaviyo. Hi @worthythreads thanks for posting in the Klaviyo Community! That sounds frustrating. How are your email settings set up? In your account settings if you go to Account/Organization whatever the default sending name and email is that’s listed there, is what should appear as the from name and email when you send out campaigns and flows.

product feed that leaves out products people have aged out of

Hi @NRBW - thanks for posting in the Klaviyo community!I think you can easily achieve this by creating product feeds by age group (as mentioned above). You can create collections in your store based on clothing size or age by use and then in Klaviyo create product feeds based on those collections. This Klaviyo article explains how to create a product feed: https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005082787. You could also achieve this by using conditional splits in your flows based on the collection or previous purchase behaviors. Pop up image background and button optimisation

Hi @Mathieu Malige in addition to what Taylor mentioned above, another thought is if you have added that image as a background image, then you might need to adjust the padding around the button to move it to the position you want. This Klaviyo thread explains how padding works if you’re not familiar. Essentially, you would add padding, or space, above the button, which would move the button down the page. You may need to adjust the padding and margins for the form itself in addition to the padding of the button.  Katherine

New customers segment

Hi @Xavi great question, thanks for continuing the conversation! You can segment by NEW CUSTOMERS by creating a segment by What someone has done / placed order equals 1  over all time ANDplaced order at least once between x dates (if you are looking at new customers for a specific time frame). Adding the parameter that they have only placed one order over all time would mean they could only be new customers.  Hope this helps,Katherine

integrating klaviyo with shopify to get discount emails to customers

Hi @cdog101 great info above, just wanted to also share how dynamic coupons in Klaviyo work. If you have a Klaviyo <> Shopify integration, you can create dynamic coupons in Klaviyo (meaning a unique discount code is sent to each subscriber and can only be used once). This article walks through how to create a dynamic coupon code. You can set all the details of the code - name, amount off, expiry date, etc. When you are ready to send the code in your welcome flow (as detailed in an above comment), you can add this in the body of copy in a text field:  {% coupon_code 'NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON' %}  (where you replace “NAME_OF_YOUR_COUPON” with the actual name of the coupon you created. In the template when you preview, it will show the coupon code as COUPON_NAME-preview and that is how you know the discount is set up correctly. Good luck!Katherine

Finding Common Attributes Between Profiles That Converted

Hey @MilanB great question! There are a few third-party tools that may achieve what you’re after. Omniconvert Reveal lets you put users in buckets based on RFM metrics and syncs those audiences to Klaviyo. Peel Insights analyzes data for what drives LTV Lifetimely is another LTV app and also shows which marketing efforts and driving or reducing LTV. Hope any of these solutions help!

Does anyone know how to distinguish preview emails after they are sent?

HI @dkjonzy,  in your Klaviyo settings you can set preview emails to come with a specific subject line (aka Preview: your subject) and this would enable you to know which emails are coming through as previews.  Go to settings → Email → Sender preferences and under Preview Emails Subject Prefix you can put whatever you’d like to differentiate your preview emails. Self select segment based on pucrhase

Hi @blaz , it sounds like the best approach would be to use custom hidden profile properties when asking your customers to self-identify in a post purchase flow. This Klaviyo article talks you through it, but essentially you would use this link  {% update_property_link 'profile_property' 'property_value' 'redirect_link' %} Where ‘profile property’ equals the property you want to identify (ie. Type of buyer) and the ‘property value’ is the value for each type - in your case perhaps “gift” and “self” - important to note that the spelling and capitalization matters - if you create a property of Gift and gift they will not be counted as the same value in Klaviyo.  Good luck,

Machine Opens vs Apple MPP opens

Hi @JessFosnough this is a really great question. Since we can’t tell 100% by the opens whether someone is engaged not, my next step would be to look at clicks. You can separate out MPP folks who clicked and anyone else who clicked (regardless of open). This would be a stronger, but very engaged group of people.  If you create a segment of people who have clicked but not opened, I wonder if this would be helpful in determining engagement as well?

Segmentation-sending to an entire list

HI @JozeSlobodnik so glad it helped!You could certainly create a cross-sell segment of people who have bought product A and you want to sell them Product B, and use that for campaigns OR flows. I often like to exclude any recent buyers from campaigns since they are getting post purchase emails and they just took the action we wanted them to (they placed an order) so we don’t want to overwhelm them with more email. Depending on your product and its lifecycle, I typically like to exclude folks who bought in the last 7 or 14 days from campaigns. I don’t have any non-klaviyo resources off the top of my head, but here are some different ways you can segment your list, based on your goals: By:​​​​​​customer or prospect order value or number of orders location what they buy where they click the pages they viewed where the lead came from how recently they’ve engaged with your site or with email/sms (ie. 30 days engaged, 60 days engaged, 90 days engaged)Okay actually I lied: Neil Patel lays out

My email list is full of spam and invalid emails, how can I stop this?

HI @EmmaBySea spammy email addresses are always super annoying. Klaviyo does try to tag suspicious looking profiles (There should be a segment called Suspicious in your account) but another way to help keep your list clean is to turn on double opt-in for your list.  That way, anyone who signs up for your list has to confirm their email before they are added, and bots will not confirm the addresses because they aren’t real. Turning on double opt in is pretty simple - go to your list, the settings, consent, Opt In process, click double opt in. This will reduce the number of leads joining your list, but the ones who do join will be true leads and not spam. Hope this helps!

Segmentation-sending to an entire list

Hi @JozeSlobodnik  - great question! If you have a super engaged list, there’s nothing inherently wrong with sending a campaign to everyone. Where segmentation plays a role is if you are sending several emails a week, you may want to target different sets of subscribers with different types of messaging. If you send every email to your whole list, you may get list fatigue and notice subs not engaging as much because they are overwhelmed with the amount of emails. For example, if I am sending a sale email about Product A, I would want to exclude customers who recently purchased Product A (so they don’t try to return the product and buy again to get the discount). However, maybe customers who recently purchased Product A might be interested in Product B, so I might send Product A customers a sale about Product B. Klaviyo has a great article about how to create customer engagement tiers. I especially find the “Nearly Theres”, “Waiting for Wows”, and “Espresso Shot” segments very valuable.

Sign up forms & Canadian implicit consent - is the standard Klaviyo form language & behavior compliant?

HI @JulieT Fellow Canadian here! 👋 That form looks solid to me - you’ve told them they are signing up to receive emails and they are providing their email and clicking a button to sign up - you’ve checked all the boxes for explicit consent.If you wanted to go the extra step you could use double opt-in, meaning subs will have to confirm their email address after signing up to show they really really want to receive your emails. This isn’t really necessary though (but a general good practice) unless you’re getting lots of low quality leads. Good luck!

Smart Send Time Scheduling

HI @lncuster,I can see how this is frustrating for you. At this time, it’s not possible to see in advance which time zones your emails are sending, however, after an email sends, you could look at the email stats and see which areas of the world have the most subscribers. Since the email is sending in local recipient time, depending on where you are in the world, the email could start sending almost 24 hours in advance to reach people in earlier time zones, as you noted. Also important to note, is that when you start running a smart send, the first couple of tests will be exploratory, and the emails will send over 24 hours. As you continue to use the smart send feature, Klaviyo AI narrows down the optimal send time to a 4-hour period of time, and future smart sends will send during that timeframe (in local recipient time). This could also be why you are seeing the emails sending so far in advance.The other option for scheduling is to use a specific time zone (like EST) so you know exac

Removing a Suspicious Email from a Free Account

HI @MikaelaLC thanks for posting in the Klaviyo Community! That sounds very frustrating. Klaviyo creates the “suspicious” segment to automatically help you filter out suspicious emails. You can’t really remove a profile from a segment without changing the segment definition; however, you could create a new segment or list, add the relevant profiles to that segment or list, and then send campaigns to that segment/list. Hope that helps,Katherine
