How to bulk update profile properties , & without wiping out existing data?

@worcestershiresauce you’re asking good questions! So glad you found my feedback helpful. Also glad to hear you’ve got access to live chat.  I’m gonna number these to make it easier to follow, so… Your question about backup CSV files. Basically any time I prep a CSV file for import into Klaviyo, whether it’s importing new subscribers or setting up custom profile properties, I save a copy of the file in a folder in my cloud drive. Either Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., whatever you use.  1b. That helps me start over with a clear trail to follow when I need to retrace steps/ troubleshoot imports that were incomplete or failed.   As for people who unsubscribe - the best thing to do is to make sure whatever group of people you’re exporting to process data is exported in one of these 2 ways: A = Create a segment of the list you’re working with that identifies all who are “unsuppressed” - that will narrow the focus to be only active profiles. B = Export people’s consent status as an extra prope

Questions about Klaviyo Confirmation

Hi @Oliver.T, You’ve gotten useful feedback already from @Omar. One thing I’d circle back on is whether or not to have “confirmation” emails sent from Shopify while you’re already sending them from Klaviyo. The important thing is to make sure people are getting shipping updates about their order, in addition to the receipt-style “order confirmed” email. If you already have all of those transactional emails being sent from Klaviyo, then you can turn off what’s being sent from Shopify to prevent annoying people with duplicate emails. But if you still need Shopify to send shipping emails bc your shipment software doesn’t integrate with Klaviyo, or you haven’t set up a “shipping notification” flow of emails in Klaviyo... then make sure those emails continue sending from Shopify, while turning off the duplicate “order confirmation” emails. Hope this helps!~ Gabrielle

Hi @worcestershiresauce, welcome to the community! It looks like  @Brett_Gatsby can help you get started with identifying what the custom profile properties should be. Just to help you know you’re on the right track, I’ve done a very similar process for many clients before. Custom profile properties are the special sauce of Klaviyo. If you can build them out, and maintain them over time, it helps you develop a rich dataset for your customer database within Klaviyo. I’d highly encourage you to create a “dictionary” or reference doc to help yourself/ your team keep track of custom profile properties created, the data type you set for each one, and the values created for each property. This is an example of how I’ve set that up in Airtable for one of my clients’ Klaviyo accounts.Some details redacted for confidentiality What type of custom property to use?For your purposes, you’ll want to set this up as a List data type custom property. Hey @popsmash, Thanks for sharing your insights here. More specifically what I’m looking into is optin forms on a company’s ecommerce store. So we’re not focused on social media followers that aren’t already on the site. We’re focused on converting site traffic to email subscribers. Do you have any data on giveaways as email optin incentives in that context? Or is POPSMASH exclusively focused on social media? One of my clients has several existing influencer/ brand partnership relationships. Maybe it’s worth doing an IG giveaway to grow email optins that aren’t dependent on site traffic?

Why haven't my clients received an account management email confirmation?

Hi @TDesign, This is something my agency has also encountered before. Sometimes the emails don’t get sent from Klaviyo as we expect them to, in which case I’ve had to reach out to the Partner Support team to try and get help from them. Most of the time that was because there was a backend error in the “managed client” registration form when I submitted it. Other times, we’ve had clients’ inboxes get overwhelmed, and they just lose this as one more email in the flood of emails. So it helps to submit the managed client form while you’re on the phone with that client, so they can open the confirmation email immediately after receiving it.  ~ Gabrielle

Segmenting based on customer 'Product Ordered' = 'Product Type' in Shopify

Hey @Thomas Clayton-Smith! Glad to see you here in the community. What I’ve done in the past for similar segmenting is target “product collection contains ___” to identify a particular type of products. You can select multiple collections if needed. If that doesn’t solve your problem, you could also try targeting “item name contains t-shirt, tshirt, etc.” Hopefully that helps! Cheers,Gabrielle

How to segment based off a link click in a workflow

Hi @smileyrox!This is a great question. I’ve had wonderful personalization and revenue growth come from building flows for my clients, using segments created with the workflow you’re describing. I’m glad to see you’re doing this also.  Above, @Dov gave you a helpful way to simplify the logic of what you’ve built. If the product categories are obviously distinct from each other, using a Text data type custom property is a reliable way to build those links or buttons to automatically add/update a custom profile property on someone’s profile based on a click in an email. This is a straightforward type of logic to use for building and updating custom profile properties.  You could do this like the examples below, with the Text data type.Property 1 name = indoor_interest Property 1 values = Yes, No Property 2 name = outdoor_interest Property 2 values = Yes, No  If you go down this route, I recommend you split the product interest links into 3 separate emails. You can feature 1-3 products o

Hi @Adam Ragsdale!This is a topic I’ve personally gotten very interested in the past year. It’s remarkable how significantly the deliverability (and then engagement) for our client’s emails have improved after we started validating their email lists, and then cleaning the lists based on what we learn.Lately we’ve been using a tool called Emailable. We like it for the simple credit purchase process, which our clients can then approve to have added to their billing as needed. I appreciate how their data exports give me an email status, and for those flagged as “risky” the email score (#) also comes in really handy.It’s now become standard process when we’re migrating clients to Klaviyo, or bulk importing new optins from things like giveaways. If you have an existing list you want to validate, that’s also great. Emailable has some nice other features like identifying gender, when they can, and suggesting likely email addresses for those found containing typos, or incomplete email addresse

Hey @Andrew.Walters!Here’s my preferred method for exporting custom profile property data to analyze:Create a segment to identify everyone with your target property on their profile. So in this case, it could use the condition “Properties about someone” = “Email Unsubscribe Reason” on their profile, and IF that property “is set.” (Here’s a help doc with segment conditions if it’s helpful) 1b. Not picking a specific value of the property will help you grab anyone who has a value for that property on their profile. Export that segment as a CSV. I like using Airtable for my analysis, you can easily group people based on their custom property values, and create different tables or charts based on that.Best of luck!Warmly,Gabrielle

Hi @FritzivB!You might also consider skipping double optin for those who’ve filled out your Typeform.It creates pretty significant resistance when you ask them to double optin after they’ve gone through a whole quiz or questionnaire process.What I recommend instead is you build a specific welcome series flow for this group of people, and deliver the results of the quiz, or a similar “thanks for participating” first email. (If you haven’t built this kind of flow already to follow-up after your Typeform submissions.)Since it’s a higher level of effort to submit Typeform responses, you don’t need to worry about bot optins cluttering your list. And that extra level of optin effort also indicates a high interest in receiving follow-up emails from you.In which case, single optin will help you retain a higher percentage of those engaged new subscribers!Typeform’s integration with Klaviyo is pretty awesome, so you can send custom profile properties between the two platforms, and you can use th

Hey Eleanor! Welcome to Klaviyo! It’s totally understandable how you’d get confused when setting up lists for the first time! Many providers teach you to create multiple lists, but the beauty of Klaviyo is you can have one “master” list and multiple segments. It was a learning curve for me too.  Bear with me, because this might feel like starting over, but it’ll help your lists function more smoothly from here on out! And that data foundation makes a big difference when you get it straightened out… Here’s what I’d recommend you do first:Export both new subscriber lists as CSV files, title one something like “discount optin” and the other one something like “no discount optin” 1b. When exporting, all you need to merge these lists is the Email field 1c. Do not delete these lists in Klaviyo yet! Next you’re going to need to merge the 2 CSV files together - I like using Airtable for this, and I’ll attach a screenshot of the fields I end up having when merging fields… as well as a template

Issues With Accepts True Marketing Status

Hey @CStav1 ! The “Accepts Marketing” status can be a little confusing. If your store is hosted on Shopify, the custom property named “Accepts Marketing” is updated with a value of “True” when someone opts in to receive marketing emails during checkout. It’s a Shopify-specific custom property, that’s populated in your Klaviyo account by default as part of the Shopify integration. Not everyone who opts in to your list via signup form will have this on their profile. So that might explain the big drop in recipients.  I would create a test segment based on this:“IF someone is in X location, AND is unsuppressed AND is Subscribed to List (select your newsletter/ master marketing list) OR custom property “Accepts Marketing” is True” That might give you the more accurate version of what you’re looking for.
